CHKDSK time....

    CHKDSK time....


    Hi there,

    My Sony Vaio started a CHKDSK approx 24 hrs ago and is 11% of stage 4 of 5...is this normal?

    In my opinion it is taking to much time but that is cause by finding bad clusters.

    You don't state what kind of drive you are testing.

    If it was my computer I would stop the test and try to back up the data on the drive before it quiets completely.

    Then go shopping for a new drive.

    My thoughts and my thoughts alone are if their is any doubt whether a drive is good I replace them.

    Hang in there because their are others that might have a better idea.

    Thanks LayBack Bear....

    I'm testing the hard drive I think ... The laptop just went into this mode all of a sudden...I'm hoping it fixes ok!

    Is it possible for me just to wipe the machine and install windows 8? Would this work do you think?

    Most anything is possible.

    Why would you want to install any thing on a drive that just might be dieing?

    If your drive is going bad their is nothing that will fix it in my opinion.
    Make sure you get your data and operating system backed up to a external storage device.

    When bad clusters are found on a drive its generally a one way ticket, this is a sign that your drive is failing
