Windows 7: Computer Slowdown and Slow Responsiveness At Random Intervals

Computer Slowdown and Slow Responsiveness At Random Intervals

Not as simple as the title makes it seem. I've been struggling with this problem for months.

The way this works is, when playing a game, every three to six minutes, sometimes more, sometimes less, I'll experience visual slowdown for roughly 15-30 seconds. Sound remains fine, but the responsiveness of my mouse and the game itself drops frames until its crawling at 10-15 FPS, then it'll shoot back up to 60 like nothing happened.

During this time, I'll notice the application in question starts using more CPU. Roughly 20% more CPU than it normally uses. Around the time it stops with the slowdown, the CPU usage of the app drops down to normal.

My core temperatures seem to be normal, and my video card seems to be fine. So what is it?

It doesn't seem to matter what I'm playing. Sometimes, it won't lag at all. Most of the time, it does. Singleplayer, multiplayer, doesn't matter. Tried this with 30+ games.

This being said, SOME games never lag at all. And I couldn't possibly begin to tell you why. Please help.

Doesn't anyone know what would cause a program to randomly use more CPU than its supposed to for small amounts of time?

You need to optimize the windows for better performance. For this follow the below steps:

1) You may try performance troubleshooter which can automatically find and fix all the issues. For this, click on start button and select control panel. After that click on ‘Troubleshooter’ option and then click on ‘Troubleshooting’. Now under ‘System and Security’ panel, right click on ‘Check for Performance issues’.

2) Next step is to uninstall the programs that are no longer in use and reduce the start-up items as per requirement.

3) Run NinjaTuneUp or Malwarebytes to clean all the junk and defrag the hard drive.

4) Also add more RAM and use good antivirus utility.

5) At last turn off visual effects from control panel and boot your computer in safe mode.
