    Hiding items on the Desktop

I often save thing to the desktop.
Usually my desktop is clear except for "computer" and "trash can".

    However, when I navigate to the desktop prior to saving;
there are other system folders visible to the user (ex: Control Panel System Folder).

Can I make these hidden both on the desktop and in explorer when I try to savee?
I'd like all users to see only "computer" and "trash can" under every circumstance.

Right click on any open space of your desktop and select Personalize
Then in the left hand pane of the window that opens, select desktop icons
select only the icons you want to see

    eidt:
    for explorer
right click on the navigation pane
    de-select show all folders

There's probably a more detailed explanation in the tutorial section
    search this category
search for something like explorer navigation

Navigation Pane - Show All Folders

There might be others, look also at the related tutorials after reading the one you open

For desktop icons go to Control Panel > Personalization and click Change desktop icons.
Check your settings there, and select what you want.
For me, each user has their own Desktop, I'm not sure if there is a way to globally apply all icons and settings to every users desktop.

Here are tutorials by Brink that might help:
Desktop Icons - Hide or Show
Desktop Icons - Enable or Disable Changing

Under Personalization I have only chosen to display the Computer and the Recycle Bin. And, that's exactly the only two items that I see when viewing the desktop. However, say I download something and want to save it to the desktop: I navigate there using explorer and I find that besides the two icons mentioned above, I can see a number of other items, called system folders. These other items (icons) are the ones I'm trying to hide from view. Here's a shot of what I see via explorer. (for some reason the recycle bin doesn't show up) What I would like is for this view (via explorer), to reflect what is actually on the desktop that is seen by the user. In this example, only the computer icon would be visible.

Are those real folders or only shortcuts - which I would just delete.
