How do I extend the time until an app is marked "Not Responding"?

As the title says...is there a registry setting to change the amount of time Windows 7 waits before showing an application's window title with "Not Responding" in it?

All too often (especially on my slowish laptop) Windows is just too quick about it, and those apps continue just fine after a brief moment or two.

A simple question, but one to which the answer was impossible to find via Google. Either it's for XP/Vista, is an ugly workaround or simply a registry setting that has nothing to do with the issue, or I find articles about how to actually kill hung processes automatically. Doh.

    TIA :)

There are several keys that are responsible for the handling of unresponsive apps:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\HungAppTimeOut
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WaitToKillAppTimeOut
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WaitToKillServiceTimeOut
    for your account
    and
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\HungAppTimeOut
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\WaitToKillAppTimeOut
for the default account (will apply to new user accounts)

    Hope this helps

EDIT: Just read about you only getting kill info, the top key should be the one your looking for.

Thanks a bunch Sub Styler! I'll try the HungAppTimeout key and see if it's effective.

Marking this thread as solved; if the method fails I'll report back.
