About 15 GB gone from free space on OS drive?

Every now and then it seems that I've lost app. 15 GB of free space on the OS drive - SSD 120 GB. Tried Win Disk Cleanup, but it doesn't seem to respond. And it's NOT because I've installed new apps... anyone?

What anti-virus application do you use?

How much space do you have allotted to System Restore and have you checked it lately?

Try Folder Treesize. It will show you where all your disk space is being used.

Make sure you are seeing all files on the disk.

Open My Computer, Tools menu, Folder Options.
    Click on the View tab.
Check Show Hidden Files, folders and drives.
Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types and Hide protected operating system files [Recommended].
    Click Apply then OK.

I'd recommend you recheck Hide protected operating system files [Recommended] when done or you will be seeing lots of files you don't want to see.

ignatzatsonic: I had only one restore point. Deactivated System Restore and voila! Got the 15GB free space back. Another Q: Can I put System Restore on another drive? Again, thanks for help!

The restore points have to stay with the drive. Only in server editions of Windows can you put them on another drive.

If you use Avast, keep watching the shadowstorage (the place where the restore points are). Avast has the habit of changing the maximum space assignment.

The command to check it is: vssadmin list shadowstorage

If you would answer ignatzatsonic question in post #2 it would be helpful.

What anti-virus application do you use?
