    Can't Download Files

I was using Windows 7 Home Premium. A week or so ago I lost ability to download files, in particular
e-mail attachments of any kind and downloads from my brokerage accounts to Excel. I would get message that the file could not be downloaded, and then a message that Intenet Explorer had stopped working. I did a restore from a restore point I knew worked and everything was OK until I updated Windows then things went kaplooie again. Restored again and the same thing happened. I did some searches and found some suggestions for fixing the problem, but nothing worked. I eventually ran out of valid restore points.

I finally concluded that something was wrong with my Internet Explorer that I couldn't repair, and I reasoned that a Windows upgrade might fix things, so I coughed up $90 to upgraded to Windows Professional. Nothing changed. I called Microsoft and was passed around to three help desks. The last guy told me the problem is that my MS Office (2003) is outdated and is not compatible with W7 Professional. I might believe that if I only had problems downloading and opening files with MS Office software, but I can't download any types of files and can't even download to save, which has nothing to do with Office. Also, I have another computer at another location that runs on Window 7 Professional and has the same edition of Office, and it downloads with no problems.

I will be greatful for help.

    You can try:
    - resetting IE settings (search the forums)
    - uninstall/ reinstall IE
    - try with an another browser
    Until others comment.

    Thanks to both of you.

I did try the reset thing numerous times, as well as some other stuff one of the Microsoft guys walked me through.

How does one uninstall IE and install a new one? I encountered several things on my web searches that say it can't be done. At any rate I can't download a newer version or a new brower because....well, I can't download files.

    Any other suggestions from anyone?

    GokAy,

I uninstalled IE as you suggested and it worked.

The only thing, which helped me with this nightmare was changing Chrome download location to "Ask where to save file...". (Chrome -> Settings -> Show advanced options -> Downloads check 'Ask where to save file before downloading'). No other suggestions did work - downloads were stopping at last seconds in any browser, so guess it has something to do with download location
