OCZ Vertex 60gb raid0 ATI SB750 > Disk Sequential 64.0 Read 326.48 MB/s 7.8 > Disk Random 16.0 Read 134.21 MB/s 7.3 > Responsiveness: Average IO Rate 0.60 ms/IO 7.9 > Responsiveness: Grouped IOs 6.54 units 7.7 > Responsiveness: Long IOs 1.76 units 7.9 > Responsiveness: Overall 11.49 units 7.9 > Responsiveness: PenaltyFactor 0.0 > Disk Sequential 64.0 Write 291.02 MB/s 7.7 > Average Read Time with Sequential Writes 1.546 ms 7.3 > Latency: 95th Percentile 3.785 ms 6.8 > Latency: Maximum 11.761 ms 7.9 > Average Read Time with Random Writes 0.894 ms 7.9 > Total Run Time 00:01:06.35 SSD gets my vote as the best upgrade. The big numbers don't mean matter much to me-I use it as my system drive. The small read and write speeds and access time effect the feel that the system is so much more responsive. My primary reason for using raid0 is to aggregate the size. I have 50gb on the drive and the 10gb free space caused problems. OCZ is very good about firmware updates. I found with my ATI chipset and raid that trim didn't seem to work. My first install of RTM had a rapid performance drop. I reinstalled with their other firmware (providing garbage collection instead of trim) and six weeks later no drop.

    AHCI Performance

I changed my registry to allow the AHCI controller to load and then changed it in the BIOS.

While this did not changed the speed it took my drive to complete the entire test it did reduce my latency.

Either that or just running it a second time without it hitting whatever caused the latency to be as high as in the first test. Looking into SSD's but after shelling out £350 on an HD5870 I'm not sure if I can warrant the expense.

Hitachi HTS723232L9A360 Roughly 2 years old. Give me some thoughts!

Dang, after comparing mine to others, it looks awful. However, everything I do is pretty dang fast on here?

I got a Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB drive just a few weeks ago. Gets a 5.9 for WEI. On a SATA 1 connection (Not version 2 or 3, ONE) In my Opinion get a drive that has the biggest buffer you can find. The one I got has 32 MB for its buffer. This buffer can make all the difference. If you cannot currently afford an SSD drive.

By the way. the NV Cache stuff is for Hybrid Hard Drives that was suppose to come around and be super successful when Vista was released. Never really happened.
