Organising images on external hard drive | Automatic sorting override

    Hello,
I'm sorting through 70k images on my external hard drive (Transcend 1TB HDD).
Whenever I delete an image, the folder refreshes and resets to 'Sort by Name'. It then takes about three minutes to reload everything into 'Sort by Date'.

Is there any way to set the hard drive to automatically sort by date, so that I don't have to wait for it to load? The folder I'm working in automatically lists everything by name instantly, then sorts them (taking three minutes).

How can I override this, or 'save' the folder to sort by date?

    Already tried:
Properties > Customize > Optimize for Images
    Shift & close folder
Right click > Sort by > Date [This is what I want it to do, but it doesn't 'save' like this - loading 'Sort by Name first, then sorts by date]

Any advice you can give would be helpful.
    Thanks.

What happens if you click on View then Sort by then date, then close explorer and reopen.
Is the default view now sort by date?
