windows 7 maintenance, cleanup and hardening

im looking for a definant guide to hardening my windows 7 box and doing some cleanup before i go to windows 10 also performing a backup. i have software for backup no issue but i was wondering can i disable IP version 6? since im still using IPv4 ? is it needed? if there a guide out there please let me know on what services to disable, also using Autorun ps tools would help as well.

disabling IP version 6 is not gonna do anything.
look at how to perform a clean install of windows 10.
make an image of current system just in case and win 10 when done.

I want to harden my Windows 7 box, disable uneeded services, registry keys just an overall cleanup before i even think about putting Win10 on it. yes i will be doing an image after i do this. I do not want to back up my ssd of win7 with any issues. im looking for a guide that works and is not outdated like Vipers tutorial what services to disable in Win7.

    probably futile.
we don't yet know what services are unneeded in win 10 and if/how they relate to win 7.

    You're probably looking for this:
    Harden Windows 7 SP1 64bit

Have a look there. It's a great guide to understading many security aspects and improve the poor Windows defaults. Of course you won't find a tutorial saying "disable services A, B and C as they're unneeded", it depends on what you use, only you can evaluate whether or not a program is useful.

That said, what you plan to do makes no sense
If you want to migrate to 10, then do so, doing maintenance to 7 won't help at all, since it will be thrown away when you overwrite it. Do the opposite instead. Do your backup now, upgrade, download the ISO (make sure to backup them too!!!!!!) and reformat with a clean 10 install. Then harden, tweak, configure the resulting install, as this will be the one that will last definitely.

We don't know everything, true, but most things will probably remain. Windows hasn't had a major revamping version since Vista and most tips will likely apply reasonably to 10 too. Of course for new things, research has to be done. TenForums, Google and technical sites will be very useful there.
