High Page Table Usage?

I have found that defragging does very little until their is at least 10 to 15 % free space. Hopefully even more.

A defragging program need room to move things around while defragging and that requires free space.

I have found when I used hard drives was Windows 7 built in defragging worked as well or better than 3rd party programs. Of course that is just my opinion on some test I did a year or so ago.

When Windows 7 has free space to work with, I have found that it really doesn't get fragmented very much unless one is adding and removing lots of things. I always checked the fragmentation level first before defragging. Over 15 % and I would defrag.

Defragging a hard drive several times a week is a lot of wear and tear on hard drives.

Nothing works properly with Windows 7 unless it has free space (elbow room).

Defragging with Auslogics is different than using most other defraggers. When run with no options it does a quickie defrag and does not add wear and tear to the drive even if done every day. In reality my defrags with 70% free space typically take 5 minutes. I sometimes say 10 because if I say 5 then people don't believe me and I get into one of those time wasting defrag arguments. The reason it does not wear out the drive is precisely because it does not do a thorough job. But it is just enough that one notices an improvement after running it.

Myself I am sticking to Auslogics 5.4.0.0, at least for awhile. Version 6.x introduces new features and thereby the chance of bugs. I have never had an issue with 5.x.

I would concentrate on maximizing the free space on C: before worrying about the page file. As for page file parameters ask 10 people and you will get a 10 way argument. Try to get over 40% free space on C: to start.

Some call free space as wasted space. Not really, it is what is needed for Windows 7 to work as it was designed. Free space is like a spare tire. A waist until you need it. Then your in the oooh shoot where is my spare tire/free space.

You will have to choose what works best for you. But none will work properly without the proper free space. That's the bottom line.

My choice for memory is this. It works for me and my systems.

Windows defrag.exe has also improved in recent years. I don't argue against it. For me auslogics gets it out of the way. But at times I will use the Windows defrag esp. for analysis.
