High cpu Usage in windows 7

    Hi,

I have hp elitebook 8440p windows 7 laptop.
    It has 6 gb memory, i7 M620 @ 2.67GHZ processor

Whenever i open any process cpu usage goes to 100 %. I have installed from scratch and install mcaffe
antivirus. What could be the reason?

Have you installed any .NET Framework updates? That could be the reason.

See: Wondering why mscorsvw.exe has high CPU usage? You can speed it up. - .NET Blog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

       Note
mscorsvw.exe is precompiling .NET assemblies in the background. Once it's done, it will go away. Typically, after you install the .NET Redist, it will be done with the high priority assemblies in 5 to 10 minutes and then will wait until your computer is idle to process the low priority assemblies. Once it does that it will shutdown and you won't see mscorsvw.exe. One important thing is that while you may see 100% CPU usage, the compilation happens in a process with low priority, so it tries not to steal the CPU for other stuff you are doing.

I've seen this reported 100% CPU usage on my own machine after installing .NET Framework updates and it's normal.

Other than that it could be lots of things.
