Windows is black & doesn't display anything

So windows login looks normal, but when I log in & it boots up, everything is black. It has no task bar, icons, background or anything.

I can however open task manager and start programs that way.

It had some issues rebooting recently & I guess tried repairing itself, but couldn't fully.

Suggestions on how to fix this?

On windows logged in screen is black?.I have a few suggestion. At booting time press (i forgot the key may be f6/f8) i think. It reaches the last known good configuration status on command prompt.Select this option and enter it again. It logged clearly. You can check this way.If again the black screen and any possibility to view the control panel switch to restore point. And select any restore point from your assumption that the computer was working without this issue, and restore it.It may help.

The windows login is NOT black, only once I log in.

I'm not at computer yet, but will try to run Explorer.exe, will that help get the d3sktop to show?

When trying to start Explorer.exe from task manager I get an error message and it doesn't start.

    Any other suggestions?
