Windows 7: Cannot reactivate hibernation after Windows 7 updates

Cannot reactivate hibernation after Windows 7 updates

I've looked around this and many other forums regarding my problem and tried pretty much all of the solutions that worked for others. Unfortunately, none have worked for me. I find the hibernate option very useful because it allows me to save my session and keep it ready even if the computer was 'off' for many hours. This may or may not work in sleep mode because the battery could run out before I plug the laptop to the power outlet.

As the title says, my hibernate option was there and after installing updates the option is gone. I've tried reactivating it using 'powercfg /hibernate on', which tells me that the option is unavailable because the system firmware does not support it. This seems particularly strange because it was working fine before the update. Do windows updates also work on the firmware? I thought this was done directly by the user going to the manufacturer's website and getting firmware updates directly from them.

Some people in this and other forums have mentioned the possibility of the graphics card conflicting with the hibernate option. I uninstalled and re-installed my graphics card driver and it didn't bring the option back. I do not see any conflicts in the Device Manager.

Yet another solution was the 'hybrid sleep' option conflicting with the hibernate, but there is no hybrid sleep option in my system. When I run powercfg /a in the cmd, I see that the system only supports the sleep option.

This whole issue happened to me on a previous update round (about a year ago) and I ended up fixing it by restoring the system to a point before the windows update was installed, but this is not optimal, as some of these updates deal with system security and are necessary.

I also read about creating a hibernate button on the registry but this didn't solve the issue either. Lastly, this is not an anti-virus issue because I do not have an installed anti-virus.

Dont have a Samsung, but a lot of lappys now come with thier own power management set-ups, is it enabled here, the power config reports i think only relate to MS settings.

You could also check your Bios settings.

PS get an AV.
