Windows 7: Having Trouble Running "System File Checker (SFC)"!

MS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit (Family Pack Lic.) Upgrade

Absolutely! I've already made several full backup images using EaseUS Todo Backup (makes a nice sect-by-sect clone) to ext. Western Digital MyBook Drive(s)! I will be making a drop-in clone physical HDD though as soon as I get most things situated ly. Then, once again, when I've worked through calling all the companies or whatever is going to be involved with installing my previously installed S/W apps.

I downloaded them 20 at the time, that went better than all at once.

Just to let you know :)

Good to hear you are back up and running again. I hope you have good luck dealing with those other software companies. Some are not real easy. Good luck to you, and thanks to Jack for all of his help.

MS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit (Family Pack Lic.) Upgrade

Thanks for the advice, Thelma!

I'm curious if there are any particular updates I should avoid. I noticed some that are installed that are included in a list of five KB#######s that is a question I have often seen asked when people have update problems. Thee of those have already been installed. I think one was KB979602 and one was KB2534366 and then KB2533552. The people that I've noticed asking about those updates don't explain WHY they are doing so, or else get a NO response to their question about if they’ve had any of them installed.

Here's an ideal example:

3. Are ANY of the following updates listed in View installed updates (not Update History)?

• KB947821, KB976902, KB2534366, KB2454826, KB2533552, and/or KB2529073

Windows 7 Checking For Updates stuck forever - Microsoft Community

The answer was “no!” I thought my WUpdater was stuck when it took ~6 hours of just green bar fluctuations. I didn't want to interrupt the process if it was normal or even if not, and then I got paranoid when I saw some minor errors and such in the Event logs and update logs! So, since I don't intend on reading 200+ updates manually as to their contents and look for known problems, so I started poking around and doing some research.

Like I noticed that KB958488 installed and has no name/title/description! Some research indicates that this may be an old version or the likes. Should I be concerned and do anything differently? And I ask anyone again, is there anything I should avoid like the plague!

There are masses to avoid when you don't want to get Windows 10 sneaked into your system.

And KB 3022345 plus replacement KB 3068708 give false sfc results.

I am not a specialist on this so better ask for more info, some have hole lists.

But it is tricky nowwa days :)

MS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit (Family Pack Lic.) Upgrade

Thank you again, Thelma!

I recall reading THAT in one of Shawn's tutorials in the "warning" section or whatever, But I didn't recall the numbers, thx. I wonder if they have replacements for them or if they are not crucial and I should just avoid them. or just remember they're there so I can properly diagnose the false-positive generated in the CBS.log file.

Also I should point out that if they are not that important, then why are they sending them to me/us!! I found that the last update that may have lead to the crash of the very system that is discussed in this thread was one that had one item included in it. A change to the symbol for Lithuanian currency! SERIOUSLY! What are they just making updates because they're board now or something? Thanks MS! (BTW: sorry if you have friends or you have lived in Lithuania! )

And I don't want anything that involves Windows 10! When a near monopoly corporation decides to not just give away their main product ,suddenly, but push it on people for free, effectively losing ~$200/person or so times how many million of computers?...A lot, I tend to walk in the opposite direction of that crowd! But, hey, maybe they just got REALLY nice! What?'s possible! Maybe they’re changing to a Not-For-Profit, they already made too much money to store it all!?!

MS update bottleneck speed!

Oh, and if anyone is interested I'm counting roughly 500-750Kbps as the D/L speed from MS update. Yes, that is the correct numerical value and case-sensitive units! I should be done by Christmas Eve at this rate, hopefully! Ya’ think!?!
