installing 7 to its own partion

I was told that if i was to install 7 to its own partion it would run better and be faster and was thinking of doing this as i have 750gb hard drive if a made a 50gig partion for 7 on its own would that be ok and would it still run ok and left the rest of the space free to install and downloading to. Is there any advantages or disadvantages to this?

Opinions vary per user. I believe the general consensus is that is is advisable to have a OS partition and a data partition.

The advantages are related to data organization and restoring a system rather than speed. Many on this forum put data in one partition, with Windows and installed applications in another. I do that. But it is entirely personal choice. Worldwide, I'd guess most people do NOT do that. Hobbyists tend to do it more than the average PC user. Suit yourself and do whatever appeals to your sense of organization and order.

If you choose to split things up, you will see recommendations for as little as 30 gigs to as much as 100 gigs for the Windows and application partition. I am using 60 gigs.
