    Hand on Welcome Screen

After choosing the account I get the Welcome screen and a good 20 second hang. Switching to LOW VGA does not help at all.

Is there a log that will show me what is causing the hang?

It might be issue with the driver.
Have you tried booting your system with Low-resolution video? (F8 > Low-resolution video (640x480))

Or it just might be that video signal is lost (not sent ,for that 10 seconds).

My mistake it happens AFTER choosing the account screen.

Samsung magician complains that the resolution is too low.

Have you tried reinstalling your driver/updating;downgrading?
While screen is black can you ALT+CTRL+DEL to open Task Manager?(To run explorer.exe)

I have not messed with the video driver. Being semi-old I don't think the driver has changed for it for quite a while. I will have to look.

I don't get a black screen. It hangs on the Welcome screen after choosing my account. Nothing can be done at that point.

Maybe I should try logging in to the 2nd account to see if that hangs....i shall....

Windows is loading but really slow. What's the last time you installed your Windows?
Well I would suggest you to turn off all unnecessary startup programs with msconfig.exe>Start up just to speed up things a bit.

Try turning off all startup entries with msconfig, and do a clean boot to see if that speeds things up. If it does, start by adding one program at a time in the startup menu and reboot each time.

You should find the app that is taking so much time in startup that way. There are a lot of unnecessary apps that run in startup which aren't really needed, and really slow the system down.

Also, do you have SQL Server installed on that machine? That can really slow your boot times.

I have a problem with WUpdate never actually updating. Every time I 'reboot to install' updates I'm told to do it again. Another guy on 7forums had me wipe all the updates w/a .bat file and inexplicably solved this problem :-/ For at least one boot cycle anyway....I'll check it and mark as solved if it is in fact solved.

wben353 is the guy ... Update loop, 10 failing
