Windows OS disk always full - /Installer and /winsxs culprits

    Hi,

My SSD OS drive always seems to be full and if not it's always increasing in size very fast even though the only things I install on it are drivers and firmware.

Is there something I can delete to remedy this?

    Thanks.

What have you done in the way of disk maintenance?

Have you run Disk Cleanup including the option for system files?

Have you turned off hibernation if you don't use it?

Have you checked to see how much space is devoted to System Restore?

Do you know the size of your page file?

Have you uninstalled applications you haven't used in a year or more?

    For your comparison:

My Windows directory is 26.5 GB; yours is 45.1

My Windows/installer directory is 5.8 GB; yours is 20.1

My Windows/software distribution directory is 1.3 GB; yours is 2.3

Your other directories are fairly close to mine in size.

I have a 5 year old Windows 7 installation that currently occupies 40.5 GB.

You apparently have a 64 GB SSD. That's smaller than most people, so you have to take some care about holding down occupied space or else spend say 70 to 100 US dollars for a considerably larger SSD.

Looks like you have a lot of msi installers. You could check and see if there are any duplicates.

Theoretically you could dump all of them, but it would then be tricky to uninstall/repair the programs they relate to.
