CPU temperature constantly over 70 degrees Celsius

Hello guys,

This is my first post over here and I wanted a bit of help with an issue I've been having with my laptop for the last year or so.

Constantly its CPU temperature is over 70 degrees Celsius and the fans are always at top speed. It does not matter how long it has been turned on for. I could turn it on after several hours off, do nothing - just load the startup stuff - and have the fans working hard. I've checked the CPU temperature with RealTemp and it constantly scores over 70 degrees.

Does anyone have any insight on this? I have done some online virus checks and found nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you ever cleaned the laptop from dust buildup that might be clogging the exhaust vent, fan, etc ?
Can you feel hot air coming out of the exhaust vent ?

Yes I have, I have opened up the laptop and cleaned the fans. The air coming out is not precisely hot. If I put my hand in the underside of the case I can feel the heat coming out of the CPU.

Also, I had already taken out the heatsink, cleaned it out of thermal paste, reapplied paste and put the heatsink back in. Before that the temp would climb all the way up to 90+ and the laptop would shut down in some cases when it went over 110.

You could also try HWMonitor to see what it reports, it can display temps, voltages, fan speeds, etc. depending on your laptop sensors.

There have been many high cpu load reports mainly caused by svchost.exe (netsc)
You can open resource monitor Overview page and see what is happening if you have a high cpu load going on.

The RealTemp CPU load is under 20% at the moment. I checked the Task Manager/Processes from all users and there are indeed a lot of svchost.exe processes.

imho 20% CPU load should not cause an overheating problem.

I use the HWMonitor GUI to check things, so i know if my PC is working without issues.
You would have to know what the fan speeds, voltages, etc should be for your laptop, to know if they are within "tolerance".

Here's an example of what i look at with HWMonitor GUI to see if anything needs attention.

For what it is worth, a CPU loading hovering around 20% on this clean laptop takes the CPU temp to 80C.

Then i guess the OP should use Resource Monitor to see why CPU is hovering around 20 %.
Or does this mean that's normal for the OP laptop.
