    defragmenter has stopped working

my defragmenter has stopped working. Task Manager has been corrupted or tampered with. How do I fix it? Can I re-install defrag?

Hi LIZ and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'd run a full scan with your anti-virus of choice just to rule out any issues. You could also run the free on-demand Malwarebytes since no anti-virus product will be 100% effective 100% of the time. Be sure to select the "free download" option towards the bottom of the page.

Next I'd run a system file checker scan (option 2) from an elevated command prompt. The SFC will attempt to find, repair, or reinstall damaged or corrupt system files. If you get a notice that SFC could not fix some files you might have to run the scan 3 times.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please post back with your results.

Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded the repair program and Re_image says successful. However defeat problem still exists. I have been hit with Windows Media centre virus. Something called "Trusted Installer" has embedded itself in permissions customised settings and won't let me have control of permissions. Any suggestions other than a stick of dynamite?

    UN-INSTALL re-image program PLEASE.
What were the results of the 2 scans you were asked to run

LEAVE Trusted installer alone its a MAJOR part of W7, it sets ALL the permissions on your comp.
Do you have access to a W7 disc.

Hi Roy, thanks for the reply. Scans said that Windows explorer and another program had crashed and there were several threats. Should I still uninstall re-image? Is there a problem with it? I still have no control over permissions. Cannot give full access to myself as administrator. Seems like I have been hijacked. Do not have access to W7 disc.

I would, if you look at the possible solution its ALLWAYS the first option as a solution.

Can you post the malwarebytes log.

Can you also run ESET on-line scan, dissable AVG
