    Browsing very slow

My browser (Opera) has slowed to an aggravating slow speed.

Seems there is something running in the background that is just eating up processes. Tried IE also, same thing with it. Also slow with other programs such as MS Word and others.

Tried connecting computer directly to my cable modem thinking it might be something in my router but speed was the same, slow. I'm hard wired directly to my router. Used to have good speed with WIFI too but have been disabling WIFI lately thinking that might help some. It doesn't.

Get the message of Backup Did Not Complete when trying to backup. Got a message this morning when I rebooted saying "Failed to connect to a window service - Could not connect to the system event notification service".

    Running AVAST.

Noticed, through Task Manager, a Norton file was running. I used to use Norton. Used Norton removal tool from Norton and Bleeping Computer but that didn't help either.

Would appreciated some help. I just don't have the knowledge to solve this. Thanks

Ray in my experience uninstalling Norton does not always delete all traces of that AV which I am not a fan of so when deleting the normal way I always check for registry entries in the HKEYS - LOCAL_MACHINE and CURRENT_USER > in each scroll down to Software then scroll down that list and right click and delete any entries for Symantec.

You need admin rights to do that but before you go ahead and delete I always use this first Registry - Backup and Restore

I think then it might be worth a look at what processes are running too in Task Manager to see what is eating up the CPU and memory

Found some remnants of Norton in the registry under Software. Deleted them by right click delete. Took me 2 minutes just to type this waiting on prompt to come and go.

    From rayburnracing (My System Specs).

Antivirus MS Security Essentials, Webroot, SysTweak Adv. Sys. Optimize
In my opinion this combination alone can cause such a problem.

Ok, I've tried several things hoping to correct my problem but none of them have worked. I did the following:

    Uninstalled Avast.
    De-fragmented the hard drive.
Installed Chrome and it was slow also.

I'm getting the following message after a restart and this never happened before. "Failed to connect to a Window Service - Could not connect to the System Event Notification Service"

I had to wait probably over 5 minutes just to get to type this, that's how slow things are now.

I'll be standing by to hear from you who are trying to help me out with this. Thanks for you help.

Here are the screen shots you requested.
