Windows 7: Winsxs/pending.xml files taking up all disk space

Windows 7 home Premium 64 bit
Winsxs/pending.xml files taking up all disk space

there are three huge pending.xml files located in the winsxs sub directory the largest one is over 12gb!

I no longer have any space left on the boot drive c: which is a 64gb Ssd..

Can anyone help with suggesting what the best course of action is to take.

I have previously had space issues and have compressed the drive, removed the swap file from the Ssd to the bigger data drive run disk cleanup to remove restore points etc

Winsxs is not a normal folder it contains symbolic links to files that are actually located all around the system folders - unfortunately symbolic links are designed to report size and other information to windows explorer as that of the endpoint files not the few bytes that the links actually take.

If you look at the winsxs folder as it really is then you would see an actual size of less that 1% of that reported by File Explorer, so to clear this folder you will need to uninstall the programs that are generating the linked files and then performing a disk clean-up

This utility may help grasp the issues involved

dll files taking up too much space on my C drive
I am running the minimum of apps on my Toshiba laptop but the C drive is almost full and over 50% of the drive is taken up with many many small dll files. Can anyone please advise me on how to safely remove this clutter if its possible. Many thanks - Richard

Winsxs suddenly taking up 80% of disk space
Just today I got a notice my SSD was getting too big. Taking a look further, it seems the culprit is winsxs file. I've had this computer for 4 years and have never seen this. It is 35gb in size, that folder alone. What is going on?

Large Windows and winsxs folders taking up too much space
I have an ultrabook with 128 GB of space, 101 GiB after partitioning and so on, so it got annoying when I just checked my C:\Windows directory and it was up to 25 GBs, with winsxs up to 14 GBs. I had heard on Windows Weekly that there was a way to clean up the winsxs directory now, so I followed...

Winsxs file already consumes half of my disk space...
I recently replaced a 60GB SSD because my winsxs file was using over 25GB and I was down to about 8GB of usable space. I went out and bought an 80GB SSD and after my install it was already half full before I put any application on it. The winsxs file is already at 11GB and I really do not want to...

Files I cant find taking up space
Hey, I have a 60gb SSD that is unsurprisingly always nearly used up, but I cant see what is using up most of this space. I have 3-4 applications that must be using up less than 10gbs altogether and all my mp3's and movies etc are stored on a seperate drive. For example, my user folder shows up in...
