    Windows taking 20+mins to load

    Hello,

I've been having issues with slow startup for a few days. I've looked online and tried just about every suggestion online and nothing had fixed issue.

Have tried restore point, removing /reinstalling drivers, system repair, sfc/scannow. I tried a clean boot and it still takes 20mins to start up.

Windows update is not working either, was trying to update and it just checks for update, left it on overnight, never found any updates even tho updates are super old.

I have a raided system for storage, 2 HDDs. I tried unplugging one at a time to see if one was failing, same thing happens.

I'm out of ideas. If anyone can help would be appreciated

    Thanks

Hello and welcome Bjpac mate your specs are really very basic ie the mobo model number, any AV etc so could you fill in a bit more in your profile or use this System Info - See Your System Specs

Now you say this has started in the last few days? if so I would myself run these first up I know the sfc has been done but it doesn't hurt to run it again
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary

    if no fix then these

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
    Malwarebytes | Malwarebytes Premium
    AdwCleaner Download
ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(NB If you are running Kaspersky as the main AV then it might need disabling it when trying ADW because it does not like it at times)

It might be worth looking in the Task Manager > Processes to see what you are running, and if you go to
Start > type msconfig > right click on it > go to the Start up tab and see what is being loaded at start up.

Now there is one more thing after that and that is to run through this as I think of it as my computing bible and use it on all my machines

Hmm that's a long time between updates mate and I am assuming that old upgrade to 10 updates would still be floating around I honestly am not sure of what you can do about those.

Personally I get updates are ready messages popping up and then they "download" forever and still will not install - frankly my machine runs perfectly well without the updates and has done for a long time so I don't even bother trying anymore. Maybe I am a bit suspicious of the situation in that as MS are trying to close down 7 are the updates just some smoke screen to lead us into thinking they are still supporting us because in the past pre 10 I never had issues like this.

Anyway have a look at the link I sent it is quite well worth doing some of it - it does mean you might lose some of what I call "bling" like transparency but for it is worth I cannot see what the need is for it.

    For the updates, try this
MS releases SP2 for Windows 7

    With IE 11, download KB3020369, KB3125574 and KB3172605
    Install:
    KB3020369 is first
    KB3125574 is second
KB3172605 is last. (this one is important)
Go to Services - Windows Update - Enable.
