    sfc /scannow

Hello could someone please explain to me why when you run a sfc /scannow most say run it 3 times.

I saw some of my Dad's old post's and he also asked people to run it 3 times.

If so how important is running it 3 times and why. Thank You

    Hi there americancritic

This is a common practice IF any corrupt files are found (see the Tutorial here )

    Otherwise one time is enough

If sfc /scannow finds problems, reboot and run sfc /scannow again up to three times with reboots after each sfc /scannow that has found a problem.

The reason is, sometimes sfc /scannow will need a reboot to fix some problems during the rebooting. Some things can't be fixed while they are running. A reboot stops those things and restarts them again which give sfc /scannow the time to fix them, if possible.
