Put PC in Sleep mode but still turns off?? Win7 64 Home Premium SP1

    Have a Dell Studio 540 running Win7 64bit.

I have the PC sleep settings set to turn off display in 3 min and put the PC to sleep in 5 min. Also went into change advanced power settings and have the HD set to turn off NEVER.

So the PC does go into sleep mode as it should then for some reason after a while when I go to wake it up, the PC is turned off. So I have to manually restart it and when I do that I get the black screen if you want to start WIn normally etc.

I also do notice when the PC is asleep that the power button in flashing as it supposed to. At one point I swear the power light was flashing and when I tapped my keyboard or mouse that turned off the PC.

Sort of a pain, anyone know how to fix this???

    TIA

a computer that is asleep and won't come out of sleep is a common problem. Is that what you are saying? It sounds like you are saying you have a different problem

Yes, I put it to sleep and when snoozing at times it just shuts down.

Makes me wonder if it is trying to come out of sleep but is giving you a BSOD instead. You might try seeing if it comes out of sleep okay after a clean boot.

No blue screen of death, all that happens is that it turns off instead of sleeping, When I manually restart I get the black screen asking is I want to start windows manually, safe mode, safe mode w/ networking. I just hit the start manually and it starts right up.

Now I have it set for the display to turn off in 3 min, put the pc to sleep in 5 min and in the advanced to turn off the HD in 10 min. Will see what happens............

just to clarify, the reason I suggested it might be a BSOD is because you would not know it was a BSOD since the screen was off, and because that black screen does not show after a shutdown, but does show after a BSOD

Here is what I have done.
Turn off display after 3 min
Put PC to sleep after 5 min
Advanced> Turn off HD after 10 min

Had pc snoozing all night and woke right up this AM with no issues

Also Dell does have a software program called Support Assist , I used that to run a full diagnostic on the whole PC and it passed w/o any warnings, I also have retested it a few times ad received the same results.

So now its just a wait and see. I really hops I'm not getting a blue screen of death. Is there any other tests I could run?
    TIA
