Win7 Pro x64 system painfully slowing down while idle

Hi,

I got a peculiar problem with my system. It works perfectly fine until I let the periferies go and leave for 3 minutes. Overall computations fall down at least by a factor of 10. After i get back and pinch the mouse everything gets instantly back to normal. Tried to play around with energy saving options but didn't come up with a solution. One clue is that it seems like the PC is switching to GPU while idle because it's fans start to hum wildly. This is highly detrimental for me as I am rendering things for a living and it basically demands me sitting around all the time despite it not being my main workstation.

I'm pretty sure this is some system ticker or command set the wrong way, maybe BIOS but in case someone needs specs:
2 x Xeon X5650
24 GB DDR3
GeForce 660 Ti
some similarly mediocre hard drives

On my BIOS I have some settings that allow the CPU to decrease the clock when idle.
Also on Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings, select High Performance and you'll find a Processor Power manager.

I've tried messing around with the advanced Win7 power settings before and it didn't work. I have found a ticker in BIOS which expletetively says 'additional power options for CPU when idle' but it didn't change anything. I think I will settle for a mouse moving script for now.

and the silly question is when did you last update your drivers.

and have you set settings to stock values in the Nvidea control panel.

Not silly at all considering how inept people come here for advice. My ware is rather old and most of its drivers are either discontinued or fall in for some core update that is an offshoot of developing newer hardware.

But. I solved the issue, I don't yet know what exactly made CPU stop slowing in favor of GPU. The mouse moving script didn't work at all so I assumed that some USB setting (as both my mouse and keyboard are pinned through USB) must be involved too. So I once again disabled anything that could even vaguely influence performance and it worked. The most probable in the mix are in the advanced power options:

USB selective suspend setting: disabled
PCI Express -> Link State Power Management: off
Processor power management -> System cooling policy: passive
