where does powercfg store its current state, and why can't I override?

I have endless problems with sleep.

    Right now,
    Code:
    powercfg -requests
claims that PID 5724 has a file open over the network. However, there is currently no PID 5724 running on my machine. Process explorer does not find any such file handle, either (from any user or system). I probably did have that file open yesterday in a process that has long since exited, but powercfg doesn't seem to have noticed.

So, I would like to at least see where this erroneous info is stored, in the hopes of hacking it.

Also, unfortunately, there does not seem to be a way to restart the power service, which might fix the problem.

    Thanks.

Have you tried setting Windows so that it never goes to sleep unless you manually tell it to?

If you do that, it might clear any erroneous settings which are causing this problem. Then perhaps you could set it to go to sleep under certain conditions, if you want it to.

I haven't tried that, and I doubt it would work.
