Sync Center cannot delete temporary files

    Hello,

I recently tried out the Sync Center but found it would not meet my needs (i.e. cannot specify another location or partition to store the offline files). So I've decided not to use it however it had already sucked down about 22GB from my NAS and won't give it back.

I've tried disabling offline files and after a reboot I have not regained any space.
I've tried clicking delete temporary files on the disk usage tab of the offline files dialog. it runs through a list of the files in the storage saying it is removing them and then says completed removing offline files. but when I check the space has not been reclaimed and opening the offline files again still shows 22GB used.
I've tried "View your offline files" and selecting them and clicking delete. Shows a delete progress bar and then completed but still the files persist.

    any suggestions please?

    Regards.

Very possibly,if you try backup and restore from a time prior to Sync Center, you may be restored to your original files. If that does not work, I would try a system restore from a time prior to your problem. I am fairly sure one of these remedies will work.

Without going through all the details and hours I spent struggling to make this stupid program cough up about 21GB of consumed space and still having misc. data lost in that black hole I finally found a solution that worked perfectly for me. If you want to turn off offline folders permanently follow this:

    - disable offline folders using the manage offline folders from sync center (requires reboot)

    - Open an elevated command prompt (right-click, run as administrator)

    - Type these commands:

    cd %systemroot%\Windows
    takeown /f csc /r /a /d y > NUL
    icacls csc /grant AdministratorsF) /t /l /q

    - Delete folders under c:\Windows\CSC

Got this from: Need to delete \csc Folder, "Access Denied" even in safe mode - Vista Forums

Not sure if you'll be able to get offline files back after this but I didn't care :) much better programs out there to sync my files than this...
