PC freezing wont, restore or defrag and other problems

    Hi

My PC has extremely slow to boot for a while now and despite trying things mentioned on other threads on this site I could never sort it, just keep it at a tolerable level.
However today it has suddenly become unbearable. It started today with Chrome freezing several times and then apps I have installed freezing as well.
I first tried CCleaner which made no difference, then tried a defrag which refuses to operate. It doenst seen to analyze any of the disks except System Reserved which it shows at 9% but still won't analyse it. If I try and defrag it says Pass 1 100% and then just returns to 9% fragmented.

I tried a system restore of which I only had one option, it goes through the process of restoring but then tells me it cannot restore. However if I try and system restore again then it shows as having just restored.

I did renew Kaspersky Internet Security yesterday which had to be re-installed but I have disabled that and still have the problem.

To do a defrag, boot into Safe Mode first. It will run a lot better there. And if you find that your computer runs a lot better in Safe Mode than in Normal Mode, you may have some programs or services loading at startup which are slowing things down. Here's a post I put explaining how to use MSCONFIG to troubleshoot and fix this problem: Take's 5 mins to connect to the interent from boot up. - Page 2 - Windows 7 Help Forums Read post #15. Start the MSCONFIG process while you are in Safe Mode, then reboot to Normal Mode once you have disabled all non-Microsoft services, to see if you are on the right track.

    Hi and thanks for replying
In safe mode it will not attempt to defragment.
The only service I have running apart from Microsoft is malwarebytes everything else is stopped. Malwarebytes and C Cleaner were the only thing on Start Up. I disabled them both.

Oddly, or maybe not? Since stopping those 2 things have sped up. Not sure if this has solved it permanently we shall have to see.

Edit: I forgot to mention that task manager had CPU usage at 26% when idle, apart from malwarebytes and ccleaner in the background. Its now running at 4%

Hi, I would say that if you are running Malwarebytes v3 then this is the answer.
Go back to MSCONFIG and re-engage a normal startup but without MBAM.
I still have 3 out of 3 computers here at my house that will not run on v3 and are therefore still on v2.
On boot everything is very sticky and functions required take minutes sometimes to respond.
