Require Admin Access to deleter but I AM an Admin...

    Folks:

I have researched this problem on loads of sites and have done everything suggested with no success. As the screenshots I’ve included show, my boot drive if full of folders for which I can find NO use but I cannot delete (and my drive is getting full). When I right click and try to delete the folder(s) I am told I need Administrator access. So, I go through all the processes of right-clicking to Properties and/or going through Control Panel -> User Accounts -> and all to verify I am an Administrator (which I am). Go back and try to delete – nothing, same error message.

I was going to just give up and but anew hard drive, but then realized if I simply mirror the existing drive onto anew one, I’ll STILL have all those useless and undeletable folders/files…

Anyone have any new suggestions? Thanks.

    Tom

Welcome to the forum. Some the folders will be owned by system which is above admin. Some you will need to take ownership before you can delete. Uncleaner will get rid of most of these Google uncleaner I am on phone so can't give a link

I have foundthat if I right-click on a folder, go to Properties -> Security ->Advanced -> Owner -> Edit -> select my own name as an Administrator ->check the Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects -> OK all the way outTHEN I can delete the folder… but there are hundreds I have to do…!

    Hi Thomas

Looks like you have a non standard setup

the OS drive is usually named >> local disk C << and on this with administrator rights you can delete anything
As yours is named differently, Starfleet C - you DO NOT have the same rights
When you set it up looks like you missed out the Admin permissions rights

Samurla and Roy: Thanks for the advice! Will try the link (and see if renaming my drive might help, but sounds like not....) and let folks know. Tom

Try rebooting into Safe Mode. You can probably delete them once in Safe Mode.

Just make sure that it's ok to delete them before doing so. Windows may have them locked for a reason.

I suggest doing a full backup with Macrium Reflect Free or other after-market backup software (not Windows backup) before proceeding, so that you can reverse what you did if it causes any issues.

By the way, that backup is for use if you get stuck in an impossible mission.

This tape will self-destruct in five seconds...
