    Computer won't shut down

When I try to shut down the screen just continues to say shutting down but nothing happens. Trying to put it to sleep is no more successful. The screen just goes dark but it doesn't go to sleep. Any help really appreciated.

    The basic fist.

    - Schedule a disk check (chkdsk c: /f)

    - Do a system file check (sfc /scannow)

Thanks a lot for the help everyone.

System file check is fine, and the short disk check was fine. I think the problem is a Realtek card reader driver. I had an SD card inserted for a couple of days and I'd forgotten about it. That and USB drives are never detected properly. Anyway I've removed the card. Doesn't solve the driver problem but now I can shut down properly.

Open device manager to see if there is any yellow alerts of missing drivers.

No alerts. The driver I have for Realtek USB 2.0 card reader is 6.0.6000.20131. No idea if this is the best one but it sure doesn't seem like it.
