    Hello,

    Long time reader of this forum, but just a lurker who didn't have an account. First of all I want to thank everyone here for all the great optimization tweaks for Windows 7 over the years :).

    I have just built a new PC.
    i7-8700k
    32gb DDR4-3200
    Samsung 960 Pro NVMe M.2

    And being I absolutely hate everything about Windows 10 besides the appearance (which I can get a Win7 theme for), I decided to stick with 7 against Microsoft's wishes.

    I have all of the drivers, fortunately ASUS provided them. But one thing I notice about running Windows 7 (unsure about other versions) on NVMe drive, is that sometimes I can beat the rate of which finds what I type in the search bar. I have indexing disabled on everything besides User Data and Start Menu. I had the exact same settings on my old SSD and I don't remember ever seeing this problem.

    For example, if I type "regedit" really fast, Windows doesn't find it quick enough and I'm brought to the default search. Can anyone else with an SSD test this? See if you type it really really fast, if you can beat the time in which windows finds the regedit program, and instead brings you to a search?

    Maybe I did experience this on my old SSD and I just don't remember it? For reference, the old SSD had a typical read/write speed of 500mb/s, while the NVMe tests at 2000-3000mb/s, so it shouldn't be an issue with the drive reading slower, it's 3x faster!

    Also note, using CrystalDiskInfo, I can verify that the NVMe drive is running in PCIe Gen x4.

    Welcome to the Forum.

    Did you open device manager to see if there is any missing driver with a yellow alert mark?
    If indexing is turned off, it will search for the file on all disk.

    I also have a M.2 Samsung disk (SM951 – 128GB M.2 AHCI PCIe SSD drive). Despite the high performance on the tests, cant see any practical difference compared to my old 128G 850 PRO SSD SATA disk.
