SFC /Scannow repairs errors OK; next run cant repair errors!

    Hi All

    Puzzled

HP Dv6 Envy Windows 7 ult all updates installed.

SFC /scannow reported errors some of which it could not fix so I ran it again
SFC /scannow reported errors some of which it could not fix so I ran it again
SFC /scannow reported errors which it fixed successfully but just in case I ran it again
SFC /scannow reported errors some of which it could not fix so I ran it again
SFC /scannow reported errors which it successfully but just in case I ran it again
And now it is stuck in this loop

In both cases, the CBS log shows a number of attempts to repair from store diskmgt.CHM and, when it could not fix all the errors, diskmgt.CHH

Two extracts from CBS.log attached. the OK file is when it said repaired OK

So is it repaired or isnt it!!
Does this suggest a file from the store is also corrupt?
What can I do to fix this (and does it really matter)?

    Hi Rincewindwiz,

Well, actually it's both! When run sfc /scannow attempts to repair replaces missing system files. Unfortunately, most of the time, if you have missing or corrupt system files, cat, mum, or corrupt registry entries that tool usually failed to correct everything..

Yes, it matters. You should keep all your system files, etc. up to date and installed.

System Update Readiness Tool, when run, will identify the problematic files, folders, registry entries, etc. It places temporary files in the CBS folder. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS
Please Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 and run the tool. Be patient, when the tool completes, navigate to the CBS folder via the bolded path above.

Please post, CBS.log, CheckSUR.log and I'll take a look. I have over 400K replacement files and I should have any that you may be missing, or are corrupt. If you have problem registry entries we can fix that as well.

    CheckSUR.log reports no errors.
It will take a few to peruse the CBS.log

Yes indeed. I had a quick look but all greek to me.
No occurrences of the word error
A search for 'verify' revealed only good news and at that stage I gave up - beyond my pay grade!

    Thank you for your efforts

No problem with the efforts, it's always a learning experience with computers, and hopefully, learn something new each day.
