You need to zip the file to upload here.

AVG is not very good IMO. Neither is Zonealarm. You might be interested in Bitdefender Free.
F22- Really haven't look into good/bad on both. I treat them as insurance companies- they do the job and you're going to get opinions all over the board- "best thing since canned beer" or "I wouldn't use that if my life depended on it." I will look into Bitdefender. Last question, how 'bout MS built-in stuff, Firewall & MS Security Essentials? I will say I won't pay for any of them...

I've asked about Malwarebytes because it loads on startup. The paid version replaces an antivirus, the free one remains in memory but isn't active. Like Chrome, I don't use Malwarebytes because it remains in memory even if not in use.
Read this:Malwarebytes 3.3.1 extremely slows down Startup - Malwarebytes 3 Support Forum - Malwarebytes Forums

Maybe Malwarebytes is conflicting with AVG.
    Try to uninstall Malwarebytes
    Install ZA then reboot.
Install AVG then reboot. See if they conflict.
    Last install Malwarebytes

Try this ZA 9.2.106.000 Download ZoneAlarm Free 9.2.106.000 - FileHippo.com
I use Avira AV. It isn't very popular as it's European. I like it http://install.avira-update.com/pack...irus_en-us.exe
    For anti spyware http://www.superantispyware.com/down...ntiSpyware.exe

    Mega-

The Malwarebytes I use is actually downloaded each time it is to be used. That why I have no option to uninstall it. Unless it's under another program/name- I'll look.

    I will try this-
    1) Install ZA then reboot.
    2) Install AVG then reboot. See if they conflict.

MSE is just a baseline scanner. I don't recommend it. I have used and have put Bitdefender Free all many computers and it's been pretty good. But to tell you the truth, definition-based anti-virus isn't going to stop polymorphic malware.

Where's the zip file of your ARN file?

F22, sorry for the delay. Hopefully this zip file comes thru where you can use it. I've uninstalled both ZA and AVG. Using basic MS protection. I'm pretty sure the culprit is AVG, don't know why, used it for eons.

Bitdefender sounds interesting, think I'll try it.

Why don't you add a small (128G) SSD for windows and programs and use the HDD for data?
SSD is around 6 times faster than a HDD. Will boot in seconds.

It's Bitdefender Free. Free Antivirus Software - Download Bitdefender Antivirus Free

Do you need Java? If not uninstall it.

I'd turn off Ccleaner's task menu option. It's starting with Windows. As well as spybot search and destroy.

In addition to Ccleaner, check out System Ninja. It will delete far more temp files. https://singularlabs.com/software/system-ninja/
