The Windows Experience Index for your system could not be completed

The Windows Experience Index for your system could not be completed

New build; first time I have ever come across this.

Any idea where to look? Is there a service that isn't running (not sure I disabled anything I should not have)?

    Should I post my specs?

As usual, nothing there of any value.

Couldn't find anything on the internet, nor this forum.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi riffwraith,

Thats only an info page, however if you want to check further run these 2
sfc/scannow- from an elevated command mode
    KB947821 - this could take a while

    Thanks guys.

Bongo - reset as per those instructions, did not help.

sfc/scannow revealed no integrity violations, and I cant run the KB patch:

googled the error, and it appears as tho it will not run with Update turned off.

I turned the update service on, and ran the kb again, and was told that there were no updates.

I tried the rating again with the update service on, but still the same.

    At a loss.

Not sure if this matters or not.... does this affect OS performance, or application performance at all?

    Thanks again.

Go to the following folder: C:\Windows\Performance\WinSat\DataStore in the DataStore folder, select all of the .xml files make a copy of them put on desktop then delete them from the DataStore folder.
Now re-run the WEI assessment, and see if it helps.

    Hi Riffwraith,

    interesting error code.

There are 2 ways of stopping WU, either thru the main windows update panel, or by dissabling certain local services. I suspect the latter in your case, dissabled NOT Off, can you confirm
BlackVipers site has a listing of the Services and settings have a look
    (check WMI service)

you could follow this tutorial, it provides a great deal of info, ignore the title
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

    I'll look it over

Did that already as per the instructions above. Nada.

Torch - I am sorry, but I do not know what WU is, and I don't see the BSOD link being helpful. Will check BV's site.

Does this affect OS performance, or application performance at all?

    Thanks again.

    Hi riffwraith,

    WU = windows updates,

The BSOD info pulls a lot of info together including event logs

The index report is just that, at the moment its just not completing??

As far as i know it does NOT affect anything else.

certainly nothing to do with the update failure, thats why i wanted the BSOD details
if you dont want to run BSOD - how many updates on your system.

Roy is right, the only thing it may affect is a aero theme.

Just another thought do you have an older image of your drive, I had the same problem a few months back and I went into that image and copied out those files I mentioned above and then deleted the ones in the folder mentioned above and put the copied once back in and I was able to run the index again.
