Erratic HIDs Behaviour
Hello there,
I have an HP EliteBook 8770w running Windows 7 Pro.
Upon start up, trackpad and mouse began to act up, when they were previously working fine. Keyboard operation and cursor movement weren't affected, but left and right clicks started behaving weirdly and randomly.
Basically, I experienced trouble launching or selecting windows by clicking. Most of the time, I succeeded only by pointing on the item (command or window), pressing Ctrl+Alt to bring it into focus, then (double) clicking on it.
The hardest part was that once a windows was opened, I had often to do the same thing again to activate the choices offered in the window. And for some, Ctrl+Alt would close the window instead.
Then dragging between windows or locations wouldn't work. If I clicked and held on one or several objects, I could then see them being dragged where I wanted. But releasing the button would send the things back where they were (and nothing was copied or moved).
I tried three mice (cabled, wireless, Bluetooth) in two different locations. I even tested remote control, but the Ctrl-Alt trick didn't work then).
I uninstalled all HID devices and rebooted. No joy. The same happened in Safe Mode.
Both Kasperky and MalwareBytes scans came up clean. Connections monitoring didn't show anything suspicious. So did Process Explorer and Resources Monitor.
I'm just baffled and hope someone can help me here.
TIA.
