Maximize / Resize icons out of sync with actual window

    Windows 7 Pro
    Dell Optiplex 990
    Multisync FE992

Activity -- Waking the system from sleep.

Issue -- I find a Resize(able) window displayed with a Resize icon second from right at the top right corner of the window. Clicking on it Maximizes the window. The maximized window displays a Maximize icon.

Comment -- Obviously the code associated with the Icon's design state is functioning. It is the actual icon that is displayed that is out of sync. I think my readers are going to have to be really good to be able to put a stop to this one. How about it!

    Welcome to the Forum.

Can you explain better "I find a Resize(able) window displayed with a Resize icon second from right at the top right corner of the window".

Open a CMD window as Administrator and type:
    sfc /scannow

I think I understand the problem. You are telling us that the maximise/resize toggle button in any UI window on your computer is toggling the wrong way, and when you maximise a window, the toggle button shows the wrong symbol.

    My questions to you -

Does the problem only occur when you wake the computer from sleep? What do you get if you re-boot the computer?

Can you log-in as a different user? Do the same symptoms persist in a different user account?

    Thanks for the replies,

    1. & 2. Rebooting clears the problem until a sleep cycle occurs
    3. I have not attempted logging in as a different user. I'm always in Admin mode (or so I think). I am the only user but find that I need to explicitly tell the system that I want Admin privileges sometimes. This is mostly noted by me when Command Prompt domain usage is required.
    4. ico22 understands the problem.
    5. I will run sfc /scannow now.

    Screen Capture 01

I iko22's understanding of the problem is not sufficient, I can post a sizeable Screen Capture of my detailed log. It contains sequential Screen Captures of the problem along with my comments on what keyboard / mouse activities I made that produced the results seen in the Screen Captures.

Whoops! My preview has shown me that I cannot use a Screen Capture in this communication environment. I try to figure out what I need to do later.

For now Screen Capture 01 simply reported that sfc /scannow found no integrity problems.

    Hi,

If it would be helpful to upload a screenshot to the forum, then here is how.

    JPGs that show the problem

I hope what I have shown in the two attached JPGs have enough clarity to overcome the density of the screen captures presented.

Keep your eye on the red square boxes. That is where the action is.

The screen captures shown are screen captures of screen captures pasted into OneNote and comments that were typed in having to do with the action taken by me and the results of those actions on the file name "Long Term Care Insurance.xlsm" (LTCI.xlsm). I consolidated the original OneNote work using Microsoft Paint.

Now to get the JPGs attached.

    Hello

I cannot replicate the problem you describe.

On my computer I get the same output as what is in the last four of your screenshots. Ie normal operation.

I cannot tell when you put the computer into the Sleep Power State from your description in the first three screenshots.

What Edition of Excel are you using? Does the issue only occur in Excel, or have you seen same problem when using other programs?

You could set the Windows 7 Theme to Windows Classic. See if that makes any difference.

    Sorry about the delay iko22;

I, in the case of the first three screenshots, had put the computer to sleep earlier that day around 10 am. The 2139 indicates that it was 9:39 PM or a few minutes prior to that when I woke the computer.

I use Microsoft Office 2010. I have observed the problem with both Excel 2010 and OneNote 2010. I use these programs primarily. Word 2010 is a lesser used program. The remainder of the suite rarely gets used. Paint sometimes.

I will look into your suggestion to use Window Classic though I'm doubtful that that will help since I have not had any troubles with this problem during the years that I have been using Office 2010. The problem raised its head about two months ago.

I have done a recent deep scan with Avast which turned up nothing.

Take care and thanks for assisting me.

Dowload and Run Kaspersky System Checker. It can detect things that Avast misses.

I just noticed another program that is subject to the problem. I woke the computer this morning after it was in sleep mode overnight. I worked with OneNote and Excel showed up with the problem. An hour or so later I activated Firefox. It also had the same problem. The typical two click (one on the Resize button and one on the Maximize button) put Firefox in its normal relationship with the next click being the Resize button.

I'll get back with the Windows Classic mode results and the Kaspersky System Checker results later.
