I ran sfc /scannow and it showed that it repaired an error but one or some remains. I didn't copy it out
or after that know how ro read the log entry provided. The Win7 is running normally. How can the error be traced?

The only unusual activity I had was turning servcies on and off and removing a Macrium Reflect in startup files.I've since removed Macrium Reflect again (and I don't want to discuss that. Revo Uninstaller got rid of it.)

After you run it, you should reboot and run it again (up to 3 times). If there are still some errors, we would need to see the log.

Thanks for the response.

what identifier in the log am I looking for?

I took a couple of actions. After running the scannow I ran the Repair disk
for that to look for errors.

Then ran scannow again and saw the same problem.

I had the log open but didn't know what to look for.

No doubt it's something I did but don't know how to reverse.

More than likely, it's not something you did but one never knows.

Post the log file and we'll take a look.

I'm attaching the log since it is pretty long. Had to convert to text to make the upload work.
This Win7 of mine is very old. I assume there's no relevant or irrelevant personal info in it.

Ok, well the log file errored out as being too long. No clue as to how to edit it.

I'll stand by for other suggestions.

The question I had is: if something in the root is damaged, could I simply copy an undamaged folder or whatever is needed from my backup HD? I thought that was the function of scannow: that scannow could

repair any damaged files, services etc from the Win7 shadow copy on system.

The best you can do is to do a Repair Install
It is always recommended to do a backup first.

Insert your Win 7 installation disk and run setup.exe. It will reinstall Windows keeping your files and programs.

For long text files, use WordPad.

He could also do a system restore point, if he has one.

Ok I'll review repair install but I always get jumpy about those warnings of all data will be lost etc.
There hasn't been a safe repair install since XP.

I'll look at the link.

I'm not going to mess with a repair install that has so many exceptions and gotchas. But I did run a restore from the last good point pre-Macrium I could find.

That failed to do the repair.

I'm not ready to do a scratch install on anything but that looks like the only solution. I have a recent

backup which I may just swap in and then write over this problem HD. I'm just not certain how new and cleanthe backup is.

If the scannow log could just be edited and send the bottom entries I could edit that down.
Or I can try to dump it in here but I thought that would be a privacy issue. A hint as to what to look for might help as well. It can't possibly be involved in tinkering with the registry. I'm quite certain it is a services issue.

My question in times like this is: What do others do to resolve the problem?

To do a repair install, you don't boot from the Win 7 installation drive. That is a Clean install.

To do a Repair Install, under Windows, run setup.exe. It will reinstall Windows keeping your files and programs.

More on the logs anon. But my own examination of the log showed that some Microsoft games program
I had never looked at or used shows a reported error.

Without doing a printscreen which is hard to read white on black the SFC message is

"Windows Resourse Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

In the log near the end of the printout it makes referece to C:\Program Files\Microsoft games\PurblePlace.exe

I'll snip that much.

But I'll not simply delete it until I know more.

Example: since this error is on a new factory HD from Seagate, could this just be a bad sector
that can be fixed with an HD utility? PurblePlace.exe (and that is how it is spelled) is by default on

my other installs from disk. I do not recall SFC getting hung up on this elsewhere.

So two possible problems: Hardware or Software.

What a rigamarolle. Is the method then get the game install it and then if I wish, which I do, delete the whole games folder?

I'll follow the softonic link to get the .zip. Does the game install where it is supposed to or
does the location have to be designated by unzip and installing from the games folder rather than
desktop or something? My point is I don't want to have to screw around with making errors.

It didn't work-- something to do with a password file. It might be some kind of vaporware at softonic.

But I have another idea. If, as you say, it's not hardware just something that has failed to copy perhaps from the last clone job, then I'll see if just copying the games folder from my backup onto the primary does anything.

As it is I think these things will all fail. I don't like games. I don't like screwing around with this
and like I said, I don't want to see any of these useless password gotchas. And no I'm not going to
make any new accounts to find out at Softonic.

Well I've had it for this day. System said I need some sort of SYSTEM permission to move Microsofts precious games. I'm thinking something similar would happen if I tried to delete.

There are not multiple accounts on my PC I am the administrator of anything. But I don't know how to
get the proper permissions the error message gave.

I'm done for today.

Unbelievable.

From above, I did find the pasword file and then ran that.

Another error popped up saying program configuration is missing.

So back to deleting it through system or SYSTEM as they like to shout it.

I have no idea what admin privleges are needed to get this finished. But I hope readers realise
that such goings on for a game is or should not be normal.

I'm sure I did that first off. What I recall is the admin option just refused to open at the

.exe.

I should be able to go to Programs > Microsoft games and delete the whole folder.
I will do that now:

The open a new window option opens at right click but nothing for run as Admin.
Same thing happens at PurblePlace inside the folder.

I will try to delete the .exe only now or anything inside PurblePlace...

Ok inside the regular delete seemed to work on a couple of the entries. But delteting the

PP folder gave the Trusted Installer error. I made a the screen shot attached. I forgot anything I might have ever known about Trusted Installer mode.
