    Memory upgrade hp 15-bw0xx

    MEMORY UPGRADE HP 15-BW0XX

OK quick question re this laptop, I have 2 of these lappy's one being with 4gb ram and the one I'm using with 8gb ram and I would assume being the same laptops the ram specs, except tor the 4 & 8 bit.
I'd like to put the 4gb in with the 8gb to total 12gb now here's the thing, can I mix n match the ram this way or do they have to be the same size ram to be discovered by the system.

    thanks
    Roo

The laptop has two memory slots. According to what I can find the following is possible:

    4GB Total (Slot1: 4GB, Slot2: Unused)
    8GB Total (Slot1: 4GB, Slot2: 4GB)
    8GB Total (Slot1: 8GB, Slot2: Unused)
    16GB Total (Slot1: 8GB, Slot2: 8GB)

Since laptops are the same model there shouldn't be a problem mixing the RAM. Mixing different size RAM is another matter. The only way to find out if they work is to try and see.

    thanks MisterEd

finally got into the case of the 4gb computer, helps to take all the screws out...lol, this is the ram I pulled out of it, 4gb DDR4 but a little confused about frequencies.

cant seem to decipher mhz specs with the CPU-Z app. so heres a pic of the actual ram.

This appears to be the photos of the front and back of just one RAM stick.

On the first photo is the RAM part number: Hynix HMT451S6BFR8A-PB
Notice the 12800 on the first photo. 12800/8=1600MHz. That is verified by...

    Hynix hmt451s6bfr8 a-pb 4 GB DDR3L 1600 MHZ ECC Key Module (DDR3L, PC/Server, 204-Pin SO-DIMM, 1 x 4 GB)

yes mate the same stick both sides.

this is where i'm confused, the CPU-Z pic is of the 8gb machine i'm using NOT the spare one with the 4gb RAM i was going to install in my 8gb

i didnt do the CPU-Z thing before i removed the RAM in the sacrificial 4gb comp , my bad, so if that stick is DDR3L it differs from the RAM in the machine i want to use it in being DDR4.

heres some more specs for the machine i wanted to install the 4gb stick in but now i have the 4gb machine in pieces i might as well upgrade the RAM in it as the 8gb machine is satisfactory for my use.

these are the specs for replacement ram in my current 8gb machine which sounds about right so the 4gb sacrificial machine must be different.

The HP 15-bw0xx Laptop takes the PC4-17000 DDR4 2133MHz 260pin SODIMM memory type. memory type, and comes installed with 8GB memory.

ok my first query has been solved, I CANNOT use the RAM in my post #3 as it is definitely incompatible.

It appears I will have to purchase a DDR4 RAM for my upgrade so if anyone can help me confirm from the CPU-Z info that the RAM I need to purchase is actually this one or another brand with these specs....

    Kingston 8GB 2400MHz DDR4 PC4-19200 non-ECC Unbuffered SoDimm OEM Laptop Memory HP24D4S7S8MBP-8

    Kingston HP24D4S7S8MBP-8 8GB DDR4 2400MHz Laptop Memory

ok another update, i found this to replace 1 8gb stick with 1 16gb stick
