What is the fastest CPU and Memory available for my PC?

I have an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 PC with an I5 Processor.

What would be the FASTEST CPU and Memory available, that I might upgrade to?

I want to stay with Intel Products, assuming there are non-Intel CPUs available.

If there is a FAST CPU that is "unlocked", if that is the correct term, I'm interested.

I install it without Overclocking and get used to it.

Then I'd educate myself on Overclocking and give it a try.

If there are only "locked" CPU's, whichever is the FASTEST.

Thanks again for helping me enjoy my old age.

    No overclocking on that pc.

It supports intel 4th gen, so i7-4770 is as far as you can go

    about Ł25
    i7-4770

    ddr3 ram 1600mhz

    2x8gb should be plenty

    Mike:

I believe the fastest processor it will support is the Intel Core i7-4790 3.60 GHz.

SIW2 can correct me if I am wrong.

    I had forgotten about that.

More important question is why is Mike doing this? Instead of buying things for that ancient hardware, it makes more sense to get something more recent.

If Mike is fixated on oem machines such as HP, he could buy a second hand 8th gen HP. It is in a different league from earlier generations. But it is a bit fiddly running win7 on those oem machines. Best bet is buy a 300 series intel motherboard, cpu and ram. 8th gen intel cpu is fine

I've used nothing but refurbished Dell PC's since 2011, and I have several 4th and 6th generation Intel systems.
The 4th generation systems have an Intel Core i7-4790 CPU and the 6th generation systems have an Intel Core i7-6700 CPU.
I've considered moving up to Dell 8th generation systems, but my dinosaurs do fine for what I need them for.
I would never spend money upgrading hardware in them because it would be much better spent on modern and faster systems.
But it's my guess Mike has more nostalgia for old systems than I do and is willing to spend the money on them.
