Back up image is good ideal for a crash, can happen even if you do nothing. I've run regvac since xp came out, never had a problem. Right click drive, properties, clean disk every month.
ccleaner only to clean up tracks. regvac 1 week after restore point ,great increase in speed.

Read the quick guide to CCleaner
and the check boxes documentation page. Ifyou don't want it to clear your cache etc., you can just use the registry ccleaner by itself instead. I also find that the tools section generally loads faster than Windows' Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs functions, and accesses the same uninstallers. The Startup section also appears less daunting than msconfig's for most users. I have it installed on a usb stick and use it regularly on older computers at work
Thanks. During maybe 10 years I've been using CCleaner that Tools>Startup editing window was added and I didn't even know it! Sure is better than using msconfig. And I use CCleaner at every install and monthly anyway.

I dont' let any startup items run except my AV and MS gadgets/stikys. Mean, but lean.

Note that some security suites now come with cleaners - like Norton 360. Its configured to run when you are not using the pc but disabled by default. Otherwise Tune Up Utlities.

I've been using it for about 6 years. I was a little leery about Windows 7, but it hasn't failed me yet. I do use the compact option also.

What does it do compared to CCleaner's registry cleaner?

    gregrocker,

I never use that feature in CCleaner, only to clean IE temp files and temporary files, history, index.dat,etc.
