You're correct in saying the performance gain from 800MHz to 1066MHz isn't that great, the lower timings on 800MHz makes up for the slower clock speeds to the 1066MHz with higher timings. Only reason you'd really need 1066MHz RAM is to push a higher FSB when overclocking.
