Problem with Tuneup Utilities 2010

Not sure if this is posted in the right place, if not could a mod please move it?

OK - I have a three licence Tuneup Utilities 2010, which I have installed onto my own system and my nephew's laptop. At first, everything was fine and it worked on both machines. However, it was necessary to return the laptop to factory defaults and now when trying to use TuneUp Utilities 2010 on the laptop, it installs OK so I don't think there's a problem with licencing or anything like that, but when you try to open the Start Centre, it is permanently stuck on the Detecting Status screen:

Instead of putting that screen up though, it's just displaying 'detecting status' in all the boxes. As I said, before it was fine - can anyone help? I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling, no joy.

Edit: The odd thing is, it appears to be doing its thing because the notification bubbles are popping up from time to time, but I can't get into the startup centre and it's saying it's identified a problem on the PC, so I'd like to get in and see what's up.

Sounds like there were some leftovers of TU2010 after the factory restore, and that is confusing your new install.

Try Revo Uninstaller to first get rid of everything, it wouldn't hurt to take note of the developers/company name, and then go through the registry to manually delete any references to the program, and then try re-installing TU2010 again.

Yeah, I always use Revo Uninstaller to remove things - so I should also check through the registry manually as well?

Strange: I thought factory default meant just that - factory fresh. Maybe not if you're right!

Means the condition/settings/bloatware it had in it when you brought it home.

Yes look for Tune Up Utilities, GmbH, the Co. name, and any other odd looking names in the tuneup folder.

Then go to Regedit and use find listed under Edit.
Registry Editor - Find and Find Next - Vista - 7 Forums

Then if it is a x64 program go to C:\Program Files to look for the same. Delete all Folders.

If x32 C:\Program Files (x86) Delete all folders.

I have seen an x64 program intermix with a x86 folder just to be able to cover those types of programs.

I have used TU10 myself and I would definitley try a restore before the first install was done as well as checking program files and the registry keys

I've checked all program files folder and the registry for remnants of TuneUp installations after uninstalling the program with Revo Uninstaller - found a few and deleted them, but upon reinstalling the program, it's still doing exactly the same thing. Strange that it was working before - odd.

Edit: Anyone using TuneUp 2011? Worth picking it up over the 2010 version - that would probably solve this issue as well.

This may seem obvious, but something changed after you had to restore the machine to factory condition.

After going to TU2010's website and reading through the Installation manual the only thing I could think of would be whether or not you stopped any anti-virus, and firewalls. TU seems adamant about that being done before installation.

I did think of something else...Not sure of the installation media; CD or download, but maybe it became corrupted.
A smudge or scratch on the CD, a corrupted download.

It is a little over a year old posting, and in it the OP mentions an .exe file crashing, but doesn't explain why.
About the only negative I could find.

Is there any reason why you need a TuneUp Utility? Windows 7 is not XP and 7 does not require a tune up utility to speed up the system, if you wish to speed up your system, see this tutorial: Optimize Windows 7

TuneUp Utilities on Windows 7 cause nothing but problems (e.g: system instability, crashes, etc...)

Nothing wrong with using TuneUp utils on Windows 7, ive got a genuine version of 2011 and runs perfectly.

The above link "Optimize Windows 7" can all be done with Tuneup and is much easier. Like all tweaks in one program.
