do not defragment with battery attached?

came across advice online somewhere that said do not run disc defragment while the battery is attached...is this true or is this online leg pulling?

    Shouldn't matter.
Edit: after seeing Ken's post, I need to modify. Leave the battery in, and plug it into the wall. In case the power fails, you will have backup.

TRUE and important. Most defraggers will not let you do it on battery. If you lose power during a defrag you stand a good change of losing data and possibly having an unbootible computer

I assume that the battery that you are speaking of is in a laptop, not a UPS.

It may come across as confusing when you say attached...which might lead some to think you should pop the battery off your laptop before running a defragger. As mentioned, it probably referred to not running a defragger while running off of the battery's power. Aside from the corruption issues if it dies, it will also drain down your battery quicker than normal usage.
