Also stop ALL indexing - it's a hog and the Windows Search function is third rate at best (there are much better utilities out there). Deselect all drives, manually delete all file types you can (this will take a while), in Windows explorer, each drive properities, deselect "Index this drive for faster..." and apply to all folders and files.

yeah kaspersky is a resource hog.

nod32 is lighter and is good 2.7 for pure speed or 4.0 for better protection but less speed.

even microsoft security essentials will be faster than kaspersky.

I had problems with Kaspersky and had to abandon it even though I'd paid for it.
I then went on to use Avast free version and that was fine. It didn't use resources and I never had any issues with malware, trojans etc.
About two weeks ago various posts on these forums led me to try Microsoft Security Essentials which is also free.
This seems to be ok but at the weekend I run Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware as a routine.
Since installing MSE Mbytes and SAS have both turned up trojans and malware.
This may be coincidence but they never showed anything when I was using Avast so I'm reserving judgement on MSE for the time being.
    Hope this is helpful:)

Did you UPGRADE to win7? Or did you perform a clean install? Upgrading leads to issues. Do a clean install.

Kaspersky is horrible. Processor is holding you back, the 2gb of RAM is bearable but not optimal. Run msconfig and turn off everything (if not essential) in the start up list. Adjust settings for performance instead of appearance. Run ccleaner often and repair registry occasionally. Get PerfectDisk and disable windows defrag. Just a few suggestions.
