How to disable recent searches?

I'm wondering how I get rid of previous (or recent) searches in my folders for Windows 7 (not for an internet browser like Firefox).

I've searched and found suggestions that lead me to open my group policy editor. However, I have the premium edition of windows 7. Therefore, I don't have access to the group policy editor.

I've also gone to the folder options and unchecked the "show preview handlers in preview pane". Though, that didn't seem to do anything.

I'd think the answer to my problem would be pretty obvious but I'm completely lost!

Hi Ender,

Have you looked at these?

The downloaded file worked great! I'm confused as to why I needed to download something in order for the unwanted feature to go away... but thanks!

No problem.

The download is just a registry key file. Just an easy way to do it. It just modifies the appropriate key in the registry (regedit).

This is the key that it modifies, the one for disabling it manually in regedit -

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer]
"DisableSearchBoxSuggestions"=dword:00000001

The one that enables it -

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer]
"DisableSearchBoxSuggestions"=-
