    New Task Scheduler

Does anyone know of a method to force a task to run *only* when all users are logged out (that is, no one is logged in)?

    Options are presented for
1-Run only when user is logged on
2-Run whether user is logged on or not

(which to me, is the most obvious choice of bad design possible--they are radio boxes, but non-exclusive)

I would like my backup script to run *only* when the system is logged out. Possible?

That would be impossible. Having everyone logged out would mean the computer is off. SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, NETWORK SERVICE are system level accounts that are pretty much always "logged in". But I assume you are talking about normal user level accounts, yus?

Yes, let's assume that by "all users" I meant "all humans" and that the computer is powered on, booted and sitting at some type of "please login" screen and waiting for a human to enter a name and password.

I would choose Run whether user is logged on or not and select for a trigger - Begin task on disconnect from user session.

That appears to be a good solution

I'll try that pbcopter. I'm hoping that that, when used with a schedule that will the equivalent of:

If all users are logged out AND it is a certain time of day then perform the task.

That way, a defrag and cleanup can run late at night only if all users are logged out.

    Thanks!
