Windows 7 extremely slow on startup!!!!

    Hi guys!
I really got worried when i saw my pc booting up so slowly, because i have a good performing pc. After it boots up it runs fine, But the bootup process is so slow.
    I have a: WEI score:
    Asus P5QL-E p45 chipset.
    Intel Q6600 2.4 ghz 7.1
    2 Gb ram 5.5
    NVidia 9600GT 1Gb GDDR3 6.8

Besides an increase in overall performance you could see depending if that's the 32bit or 64bit 7 bumping the memory upto 4gb one question would be how much as far as programs and startups do you have running?

One article just seen goes into how to see things speed up in 7 while only 2 or 3 free programs pointed to seem to be what is claimed in the one seen at Essential Windows Tricks - PC World

The yeas outnumbered the naaa...s it seems hhmm... as you look over the 4 pages seen there.

    Thanks for the reply!
Well actually i found a way, it really speeds it up.
For anyone who dont know it, just enable all cpu cores for windows to use during startup.
    type winlogo+run
    msconfig
    boot
select the maximum number of cores.

The two cpu setting for dual core cpus is nothing new here actually. But once you set it and forget it you tend to overlook it!

You simply clck on the boot tab>advanced options and set the number of processors to 2 there. About a pair of the freebies in the article seem to be worth a look while others are a bit cumbersome. The reg edit for the Aero Peek does help for showing the desktop? but not speeding Windows up.

The two main things mentioned there take note of however is the MS Security Essentials and "Create a System-Repair Disc"!!!

How often do you hear someone complaining they can't get Windows to even load let alone simply be starting up a bit slower once everything is loaded on? For those with laptops or simply without any recovery disk for a preinstalled 7 on a new desktop 7 now sees that option included!

Sometimes that may even help when Windows is loading slower then normal for some reasong where the startup repair is needed to correct a problem. If you don't a burner or lack any optical drive like having a second HD in a laptop you write an iso repair disk image to a usb flash drive to keep onhand. The same people that came up with EasyBCD also have some repair disk images available. Download Windows 7 System Recovery Discs — The NeoSmart Files

And would that be a problem, as you'd think to get a faster boot time you'd want to set it and forget it?

You don't really see any tremedous speed up while each little tweak serves to help things along. For the opposite being reduction of the shutdown time as well as speeding things up a bit, https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...-combined.html

    Tweaks

Tweaks can only accomplish so much if you want a truly fast computer shell out the money and get good hardware.

If you want fast start up get a good hard drive setup like a 10,000 or 15,000 RPM hard drive or RAID

RAID isn't fast! SCSI on the other hand was what offered speed. Raid is simply a more stable data management since you are mirroring each drive. If one drive fails or sees some problem however...

With Raptors being the high speed drives there you have the drawback of smaller drives. Eventually SSDs will start seeing larger capacities and lower prices more affordable! to gain the performance benefits once all the bugs are worked in a sense.
