First, why don't you clicl my system specs in the lower left corner of your post and edit specs. List all hardware so we can know how best to help. But I suspect that the 2, 2GB sticks are hurting your scores.

ok thanks, have updated my basic specs. I'm running a shuttle SH55J2, with intel i3-530.

I can try taking out the 2x2Gb sticks and running winsat again.

The 2 ram gurus are A Guy and Dave76. They will be here soon. But you can run mixed pairs with some difficulty, but it is always best to run matched sets.

The RAM slots are paired up differently on different motherboards. What does your motherboard manual say about it?

Also, lots of boards are touchy about using six slots. My housemate has an ASUS P6T which drops the memory bandwidth if all six slots are used. She's running three 2GB sticks in triple-channel mode. My board is also running 3 X 2GB in triple-channel but also has a funky 4th slot if I want to drop down to dual-channel. No 5th and 6th slot for me at all. Then I had an old MSI board with what were apparently color-coded RAM slots. Good thing I read the manual because it turned out that the colors had no relation to the actual channel configuration at all.

So the colors are meaning less OMG i should shift my ram over to a odd color slot then err.... why do they do this then turn around and abandened the idea meaning my MSI board to classify

I took out the 2x2gb set and re-ran winsat.

Strangely the speed only went up to 7400 MB/s (from 7350 MB/s), so it doesn't seem to be that.

This is why I hate threads like this. After reading through hundreds of posts it seems my number is low for my system. What do I do? Something else to obsess about .

I swapped one of my ram sticks out and put it in the oppesite color bracket and walla I got 8 Gigs usable again

i had only 3.95 usable and the rest went to hardware reserve ?

For what reason I don't know especially if my Vidcard has it's own ram etc...

Look at CPUz and you will probably find that you are in single channel mode.

Because that's why there are 2 colors of dimm slots. You have 2 controllers on your CPU. 1 color dimm for each controller. You have to put 2 dimms in the same color to be in dual channel.
