Fill in your hardware specs - 7 needs 2GB to work properly, 4GB for games.
I think min requirement is 1Gb but others in the forum are running with 512 ok(ish)
What do you mean by going off every hour is the machine crashing/freezing or just shutting down?
And please fill in your system specs in user cp
Option 1
If you got a USB pendrive/flashdrive you can use Readyboost
1.Insert your flash drive to your pc.
2.Go to my computer.
2.Right-click your flash drive
3.Go to the Readyboost (tab)
4.Click the 3rd option shown.Move the arrow to the right and put it the maximum it would go.
Your flash drive memory would be very little. All the memory use up is to speed your computer.
Now for removing it do it the normal way you do it but we a pop up menu comes up click continue.
.
Warningthis will take a lot of space on your flashdrive

To be fair I haven't tried Windows 7 with 1 gig. I have a laptop with 3 and maybe I will remove 2 and see what it's like. Vista was (and is) an absolute dog with 1 gig, but I've read that 7 does better. My question is why bother? Why use a computer with a ram bottleneck when a gig of ram can be had for less then the cost of many games? I know there are circumstances where the hardware can't be upgraded - there's nothing to be done about that - but when you have a choice it seems like bad economics to not upgrade. In my experience Windows is more stable as well when it doesn't have to rely heavily on the pagefile.
Now to speed your computer MORE is GET MORE RAM WITHOUT BUYING A NEW ONE by use 1-10 GB of your hard drive.
1.go to start
2.right click computer.
3.click proprieties
4. on the left side you will see Advance system settings (click it)
5.Go to Advance (tab)
6.Click settings for the performance (1st)
7.click adjust for best performance.
8.Now you will see all the boxes are unchecked.
9.Only click Use visual styles on windows and buttions
10.Then click Smooth edged of screen fonts.
11.Go to the advanced (tab)
12.At the bottom click change.
13.Click your hard drive
14.Click Custom Size
15.Put anything you want(don't use too much)(eg.for Inital size I put 10000)MAx.10000)
16.Click set and restart your pc.
WarningDon't put a lot or you will have less disk space
