    Increasing Band-Width by 2O%

did anyone tried editing gpedit.msc and gain 20% increase in band-width, like in browsing, downloading and in up-loading?
well i just did, when i suddenly remember what i did on my XP-SP3 before..out of curiosity i just tried this tweak and see if it`ll work in windows 7 and it did...so i would like to share this simple trick.
    here`s the procedure:

CLick RUN then START BUTTON and TYPE; gpedit.msc
This will open the GROUP POLICY EDITOR
Then go to: LOCAL COMPUTER POLICY then COMPUTER CNFIGURATION then ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES then NETWORK then QOS PACKET SCHEDULER and then to LIMIT RESERVABLE BANDWIDTH.
Doble Click the LIMIT RESERVABLE BANDWIDTH.It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab i.e. "By default, the Packet Scheduler Limits the system to 2O% of the BandWidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."So the TRICK is to ENABLE Reservable BandWidth, then set it to ZERO.
This will alllow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 2O%.
    SO ENJOY and Have Fun...

just follow the images below with red circle....

    Welcome!

Thanks for sharing. What does it do? What does it give extra bandwidth to?

It has something to do with "Quality of service" (QoS)

I wonder if this actually does anything at all. Let us know!

It does absolutely nothing, unless you are connected to a network service that uses QoS.
So in the end, you are not going to increase your bandwidth by 20% or even 0.000001%

I say again, QoS only reserves that 20% if you have [active] network services that are QoS aware.

Now this is very useful if you do say online gaming or voIP. QoS will make sure there is enough bandwidth reserved to keeps those services running smoothly. This keeps other users on the same network from disrupting them too much. Not that they cannot, QoS ask for reservation it does not demand.

Hello Ianree, and welcome to Seven Forums. Thank you for sharing.

You're right Logicearth. It doesn't do anything unless you use QoS like that. You can read more about it here as well.

    20% bandwidth increase??

I am running windows 7 home and know that I have no option to type in gpedit.msc in the run command but read that there is a way to the registry but must be specific. Can anyone help me with this?

This tweak is really useless, only some apps make use of QoS eg: WMP

Also, QoS only kicks in when requested by supported apps.
